The Daleks are a fictional extraterrestrial race of mutants principally portrayed in the British science fiction television programme Doctor Who. The Daleks were conceived by science-fiction writer Terry Nation and first appeared in the 1963 Doctor Who serial The Daleks, in the shells designed by Raymond Cusick.

Drawing inspirations from the real-life example of the Nazis, the Daleks are merciless and pitiless cyborg aliens, demanding total conformity, bent on conquest of the universe and the extermination of what they see as inferior races. The 'a' in Dalek is pronounced as it would be in a German word. Their catchphrase, "Exterminate!", is a well-recognised reference in British popular culture.

The mandala is a figural or geometric form in the form of the Yantra, which has a magical or religious meaning in cult practice in Hinduism and Buddhism. A mandala is usually square or circular and always oriented towards a center.

Our mandala, however, represents a whale surfing on the sea waves. The whale consists of 10 individual 4mm thick layers which, when stuck together, result in the mandala.
The layers become more and more filigree from bottom to top, giving a spatial, almost magical perspective.
The finished whale measures approximately 48 x 24 cm and is 4 cm thick.

On the back are different holes that are used for hanging. The mandala comes as a kit and must be assembled by you. Fixing points are embedded in the individual plates, which are numbered, in which small logs are inserted to guide and position the layers during assembly. So nothing can go wrong. The last layer covers these fixing points so that they are no longer recognizable. If you want, you can also color the layers before assembly so that the spatial effect is enhanced or the mandala is presented in your desired colors.

We adapted our lamp to the stylised view of a blue whale and designed it so that the lamp is easy to set up and still casts a beautiful play of light and shadow.
The lamp holder is attached in such a way that the whale always hangs straight. By unscrewing the socket holder from above, the lamp socket can be removed to replace the light bulb (E14 socket).

The lamp is delivered in individual parts, which you have to assemble yourself according to the assembly instructions. Simply putting them together is not enough.
Due to the delicate and small connection points, this task is not that easy and requires time and calm in each construction phase, as the glued contact points must first dry.
We recommend using quick-drying wood glue and clamps or clothespins to fix it in place.
But with calm and patience you can also overcome this challenge.

Dimensions approx. 56cm long, 36cm wide and 14.5cm high.
The product image shows a lasered and sanded whale (recognizable by the black edges)
