VW T1 Van - closed version as 3D large model
In 1948 Volkswagen presented the prototype of the T1 Transporter. Based on this self-supporting chassis, VW then developed a variety of structures. This resulted in the panel van, station wagon and minibus. Later, a high roof, a version with a large side flap that can be raised upwards as a mobile sales stand, as well as ambulances, police vehicles, fire engines and hearses were designed and implemented.
The panel van was primarily used to transport small goods in local transport and quickly became appreciated and loved by tradesmen.
The cargo area was separated from the passenger compartment by a partition. There were two folding doors on the right side and a tailgate at the back. This meant the box body could be easily loaded.
The fact that the floor was not completely flat was annoying, but was due to the structure of the vehicle. Since the engine was installed in the rear area, the loading area rose to the rear part inside. But VW still revolutionized the transport sector with the Transporter until well after the post-war period and founded a new successful vehicle class - the small van.
